I am grateful that the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital and Iowa Department of Public Health are so on top of things. Ashton was able to get his flu shot early this year at his first appointment with his new pulmonologist today.
Children with complex medical issues are usually followed by their primary care provider (PCP) with bi-annual check-ups. It ended up that instead of on or just after his birthday Ashton’s have been in the spring for MDA Summer Camp paperwork and in the fall for a flu shot. Last October he was not able to get his because only the nasal mist was available in our area. The nasal mist is a live vaccine which can not be taken by those who are immunocompromised.
